The End of the War

There were big parties for VE Day (Victory in Europe) and VJ Day (Victory over Japan). Everyone dressed in red white and blue and there was dancing in the street and the church bells were ringing. There were flags everywhere and a Victory Queen was paraded through the street. At one party there were over 100 children. A huge bonfire was built and everyone was drinking lemonade.

Some children went on trips to Blackpool a few weeks later and had jelly.

It was a long time though before everyone returned from the war. Some remember their dads coming back weeks later.

"At the end of the war it was lovely. We had big parties and wore red, white and blue. There was dancing in the streets".
