The Home Front Project is designed to celebrate 60 years of relative peace in Europe and to honour those people who suffered and died during World War II.

The Heritage Lottery Initiative has funded the project to the tune of £24,930 and many people are working on the project as volunteers

Our first aim was to record on mini disc, the memories of those people who were schoolchildren in the Chorley and South Ribble Boroughs during the period 1939 to 1945. These memories will be stored in the North West Sound Archive at Clitheroe Castle as an historical record.

Who better to make those records but today's school children and nine schools across the two boroughs found out how to use the mini disc recorders, how to interview people and what questions they want to ask.

Please email us at thehomefront@blueyonder.co.uk with any memories or stories of your childhood during the war you would like to share with us and we will put them on the site.

The staff at the North West Sound Archive at Clitheroe Castle have given us their time free of charge to train three Co-ordinators in interview technique and the use of the equipment so that they can pass this expertise on to the children in the schools.

The school children of the 1930's and 40's wento into the schools and told present day pupils what life was like for them during those difficult years.

Our second aim was to edit these recordings and make a double CD featuring all of our yesteryear children talking about different aspects of wartime life in Chorley and South Ribble.

Everyone involved will be given a copy of this to keep and they will be available on loan in every local library.

The project is now complete. The edited recordings can be heard on the [Recordings and Downloads] page.

Other information, stories and photos that we collected can be found throughout the rest of the site.
